LEGIONELLA AWARENESS eLEARNING

This course is for you if you are responsible for managing, maintaining, or working with water systems where there is a risk of Legionella exposure.

Legionella is a type of bacteria that can grow in water systems and has the potential to cause serious illness when inhaled in fine water droplets. These droplets, known as aerosols, can be produced by equipment such as showers, taps, cooling systems, and spa pools. While Legionella is commonly found in low levels in natural water sources, it can multiply rapidly in man-made systems if conditions allow.

In light of these risks, UK health and safety law, including the Health and Safety at Work etc. Act 1974 and the Control of Substances Hazardous to Health (COSHH) Regulations 2002, requires that employers and duty holders manage and control the risk of Legionella exposure. This Legionella Awareness course will teach employees and responsible persons how to identify risks, implement effective control measures, and maintain safe water systems. On completion, learners will have the knowledge needed to support legal compliance and protect the health of building occupants.

On completion of this course, learners will understand:

  • What Legionella is and the illnesses it can cause.
  • Where Legionella is found and how it spreads.
  • The conditions that increase the risk of Legionella growth.
  • Legal duties and responsibilities for duty holders.
  • How to carry out and review a Legionella risk assessment.
  • How to implement and maintain effective control measures within water systems.
  • Anyone responsible for managing, maintaining, or working with water systems.
  • 20-30 minutes to complete, with multiple-choice questions.
  • On successful completion of this course, learners will gain a qualification and receive a certificate acknowledging their course of study, which can be used to provide evidence for compliance and audit.
