This Manual Handling Course is aimed at employees at all levels who may undertake manual handling operations, including the transporting of a load of items by lifting, lowering, pushing, pulling, or carrying.

The Manual Handling course will provide students with the necessary training to improve their manual handling techniques, move and handle loads safely and be able to conduct a personal manual handling risk assessment. 

Topics covered include, manual handling legislation, anatomy of the spine, causes of back pain, principles of safer moving & handling, demonstrations, practice and evaluations.

  • Causes of back pain. 
  • The principles of safer moving and handling.
  • Video and in-person demonstrations.
  • Students will practice safe manual handling.
  • Define ‘hazard’ and ‘risk’, and describe the legal requirements for risk assessment.
  • Evaluations of manual handling.
  • Anyone who is or will be involved in lifting, moving and manual handling in the workplace. 
  • This is a face-to-face course with a duration of 1 day.
  • On successful completion of this course, you will gain a qualification and receive a certificate acknowledging your course of study, which can be used to provide evidence for compliance and audit.
