Beware of Fire Door Inspection Scams: What You Need to Know

Tuesday 12th November, 2024

TEAM Safety Services has recently become aware of a concerning scam affecting residents in Hertfordshire and beyond, particularly those living in blocks of flats. Fraudulent letters have been circulating, asking residents to pay to book a fire door inspection appointment, with threats of fines if they fail to comply. We want to assure everyone that this is a scam and help you understand what a genuine fire door inspection process looks like with TEAM Safety Services.

Recognising the Scam

If you receive a letter demanding payment for a fire door inspection appointment or threatening fines, it is not from TEAM Safety Services. At TEAM, we are employed directly by reputable housing associations, such as Peabody, to conduct these inspections. Residents are never required to pay us or make any booking payments for a fire door inspection.

Our Legitimate Fire Door Inspection Process

To help you stay safe and confident, here’s how our genuine process works:

1   Appointment Booking by the Housing Association: TEAM Safety Services is directly employed by your housing association to carry out fire door inspections in your building. This means that your housing association pays us directly—residents do not pay themselves. We manage the appointment process ourselves and will only ever communicate with residents regarding the time and date of the fire door check, never for payment of any kind.

2   Advance Notification Letter: We send a letter to each resident notifying them of the upcoming inspection. This letter will clearly display our TEAM Safety Services logo, contact information, and details of what the inspection entails. It also includes a QR code that, when scanned, directs you to our website. Rest assured, there’s no payment involved at any point in this process.

3   On the Day of Inspection: Our qualified fire safety inspectors will arrive on the scheduled day in TEAM Safety Services uniform, with our logo embroidered on their chest and wearing visible identity badges. Inspections are quick, taking approximately 5 minutes to assess the safety of your flat’s front door.

Feeling Safe During The Inspection

On the image below you can see Simon, one of our Fire Door Inspectors. Simon is wearing a black TEAM Safety Services polo shirt with our logo on the left side of his chest. The colouring of the shirt may vary, but our logo will always remain the same. He is also wearing a lanyard with additional identification, stating his name, role at TEAM Safety Services, and a photographic portrait for veryification.

If you ever feel uncertain about the identity of our inspectors, please do not hesitate to ask for additional identification or to see our logo on their uniform. Our TEAM members are more than happy to ensure you feel secure.
