UKATA ASBESTOS AWARENESS

This course is for you if you're a tradesperson, construction worker, maintenance staff or anyone who could come in contact with asbestos in the workplace.

The Control of Asbestos Regulations 2012 includes the duty that employers shall provide appropriate training for all workers who are likely to be exposed to asbestos and to those who supervise or oversee works that might expose employees to asbestos. This includes the self-employed who must ensure they have up-to-date training.
After completion of this course, students will have an understanding of locations they may find asbestos and the different types of asbestos. They will understand the risks associated with exposure to asbestos materials in the workplace or at home. You will not be permitted to work with any known or suspected asbestos.

On completion of this course, learners will be able to:

  • Have an increased awareness of the nature and properties of asbestos and its effects on health, including the increased risk of lung cancer for asbestos workers who smoke.
  • Be familiar with the types, uses and likely occurrences of asbestos in buildings and where appropriate, items of plant.
  • Know how to avoid the risks from asbestos by understanding where to obtain information on asbestos in premises prior to commencing work and what to do if suspicious materials are found.
  • Use appropriate workplace precautions, including the risk assessment process, or seek advice on workplace precautions, in respect of the risks of asbestos.

  • Undertake work activities in a safe manner and without risk to themselves or others.
  • Have an awareness of the key aspects of the asbestos regulations and how they fit into the broader context of health and safety legislation.
  • Procedures to be followed when coming into unintentional contact with ACMs and an understanding of the appropriate emergency arrangements.
  • Tradespeople, construction workers, maintenance staff or any one who may come into contact with Asbestos.
  • This is a face-to-face course with a duration of 3 hours.

UKATA ASBESTOS PROJECT MANAGERS

This course is for you if you will be managing or supervising asbestos projects, and already have a good working knowledge of asbestos awareness.

The Control of Asbestos Regulations 2012 outlines the legal responsibility of those working within non-domestic premises to identify the location and condition of the asbestos, and to manage the risks, ultimately preventing harm to anyone who may come into contact with asbestos fibres and dust particles. These persons include those who work on the building and building occupants. Employees also have a duty to cooperate with the main duty holder, enabling them to comply with the regulation.

 
The UKATA Asbestos Project Managers course is essential for persons who are responsible for delivering and overseeing asbestos removal projects. On completion of this course, students will understand the legislative requirements for asbestos surveying and asbestos removal procedures, including the procurement and the on-site management of Asbestos Contractors (Licensed and Non-Licensed).

On completion of this course, learners will be able to:

  • Become familiar with types, uses and likely occurrences of asbestos in buildings and, where appropriate, items of plant.
  • Become familiar with the requirements as set out in CAR 2012 and HSG 264, HSG 247, HSG 248 with regard to responsibilities also providing an understanding of the different work categories and requirements.
  • An overview of the requirements for asbestos surveys including interpreting results and understanding the risk assessment process.
  • An overview of the asbestos removal process including remedial work options and best practice.
  • An understanding of monitoring Asbestos Removal Contractors, expectations and limitations.
  • The role of the Asbestos Analysts involvement and different types of air monitoring.
  • Suitable for persons who are responsible for delivering and overseeing asbestos removal projects.
  • This is a face-to-face course with a duration of 1 day.
